Two months following the surgical repair of an acute, open, comminuted, and articular fracture of the left olecranon, a 15-year-old American Saddlebred gelding presented with nonweight-bearing lameness. A fungus cultured from the cubital joint was identified as Scedosporium prolificans by sequencing of the D2 large subunit ribosomal DNA region and subsequently confirmed by phenotypic methods. Therapy with systemic fluconazole, terbinafine and intra-articular voriconazole was attempted, but was unsuccessful.

Case Description—A 7-year-old Quarter Horse gelding was evaluated because of sudden onset of severe left forelimb lameness of 4 days' duration.
Clinical Findings—Clinical evaluation and diagnostic perineural analgesia localized the lameness to the distal portion of the left forelimb. Radiography revealed a transverse fracture of the distal phalanx of the left forelimb.

Shoulder injury is an uncommon cause of lameness in horses. Trauma to the shoulder region may produce bone and soft-tissue damage. The present study describes the case of a severe left shoulder injury caused by blunt trauma in a 6-year-old gelding. Clinical and ultrasonographic examination revealed fracture of the supraglenoid tuberosity of the scapula and of the lesser tubercle of the humerus with fiber disruption and hematoma of the biceps brachii, bicipital bursitis, and suprascapular nerve damage.

Malignant osseous neoplasia has been extremely rarely reported in the horse and, therefore, it is not commonly considered as a differential diagnosis for acute lameness. In the present report, a 19-year-old Warmblood mare in poor body condition and with a history of chronic haematuria, presumably attributable to renal neoplasia, was referred with acute, progressive, unilateral right forelimb lameness with marked unilateral digital pulsation and metacarpal oedema. No hoof abscess was found.

The objective of this study was to describe the use, and outcome, of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the treatment of equine articular cartilage defects of the medial femoral condyle. A 4-year-old Thoroughbred gelding (n = 1) with bilateral stifle athroscopy was found to have bilateral articular cartilage fissure defects of the medial femoral condyles with concurrent cranial cruciate ligament injury. Bone marrow derived MSCs were isolated, expanded, and suspended in a partially autologous fibrin glue.

Case description: Two calves with unilateral congenital flexural and torsional limb deformities below the hock joint of the left hindlimb were presented to Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Ondokuz Mayis University. According to clinical, goniometric and radiological examinations, flexural (130°-40°) and torsional (90°-180°) deformities were diagnosed. Except for the limb deformities, both animals were otherwise completely healthy.

This report describes the clinical, ultrasonographic and radiographic findings in an 8-year-old Icelandic mare with unilateral shoulder luxation after general anaesthesia. Reduction of the luxated humerus was performed in a closed fashion using a calving jack under general anaesthesia. The horse recovered well and ultimately returned to its previous level of performance

This article describes the acute onset of infectious polyarthritis and osteomyelitis in a 4-week-old foal. Analysis of synovial fluid obtained from the left femoropatellar and right tarsocrural joints combined with clinical signs consisting of joint effusion and lameness yielded a diagnosis of septic arthritis. Bacterial culture of synovial fluid from the left stifle revealed Salmonella type III: 44.

A 4-year-old Quarter Horse gelding with a history of acute trauma was presented to our faculty. This report describes the inciting injury, documented in a video, and the ultrasonographic diagnosis of a traumatic extrusion of the right lateral meniscus with an accompanying extra-articular hematoma and distal collateral ligament lesion in a competing Quarter Horse. The ultrasonographic diagnosis of a lateral meniscal injury directly correlated with postmortem findings and this type of lateral meniscal injury has not been previously described in detail.
